• Laser and electro-static principles are what underpin the technology of how the toner creates the image and is applied to the page in these types of printers. It does this by first creating static charges on a group of photovoltaic cells on the surface of the rotating photoconductor drum assembly inside the printer. A laser is then switched on to discharge charged areas where no image exists leaving behind a fully charged invisible image area representing the formation of the job created in the PC. This charged drum then attracts the toner particles from the toner cartridge. Then a charge roller provides a reverse charge to draw the toner image from the drum and pulls it down and onto the paper. The paper with the toner layer upon it then goes enters a heated fusing apparatus where the image is pressed and melted into the fibres of the media to complete adhesion. The page then exits the printer to an exit tray ready for operator use and further document handling and processing.
