There will never be any doubt about Canon’s ability to deliver excellent output quality. Canon, after all, is the master of photo printing and photo printing is, after all, the epitome of printing on the whole. The MAXIFY series from Canon is its effort to deliver excellent output quality while not compromising on businesses’ efficiency requirement. In this regard, the Canon MAXIFY MB2760 is aimed at the Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) market segment.
This means that the Canon MAXIFY MB2760 is aimed at small offices with light-duty printing requirements or home offices and personal users with heavy-duty printing requirements. The MB2760 is a multifunction printer i.e. it can print, copy, scan, and fax. Was the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) able to bridge the challenging gap between top-level output quality and much-wonted business efficiency? To some extent, it did and to some, it didn’t but we’ll let you decide. Here’s our Canon MAXIFY MB2760 review.
Strengths of Canon MAXIFY MB2760
As can be expected, the greatest benefit that the Canon MAXIFY MB2760 offers to its owners is its output quality. Canon has, quite easily, managed to translate its excellent photo output quality into overall output quality. The device is rated to print up to a maximum resolution of 1200 x 600 dots per inch (dpi). Technically, this resolution ceiling is similar to many of its market competitors but in practice the machine performs better.
Text-focused documents printed by this device tend to show quality comparable to what professional typesetters produce. Further, the colour accuracy of graphics means that you can probably use this device to print your marketing material and presentations. Finally, as is expected, photo printing quality is excellent too.
While the print output quality is excellent, the scanning quality is equally good. The maximum scanning resolution that the Canon MAXIFY MB2760 is capable of is to the tune of 1200 x 1200 dpi. The best thing about the scanner on this device is its speed. If you use the 50-sheet Automatic Document Scanner (ADF), you can scan at speeds of 18.5 monochrome pages per minute (ppm) and 15.5 ppm in colour.
The Canon MAXIFY MB2760’s paper handling is also something to be cherished. In fact, its paper handling is good enough to give more advanced printers a run for their money. The MB2760 comes standard with a total capacity of 500 sheets but that is not the good part. The good part is that this paper capacity is divided into two trays of 250 sheets each.
This means that if you want to use two different types of media, you can. The print engine in this multifunction printer is prolific as it has a maximum monthly duty cycle of 20,000 sheets. Along with this paper capacity, you also get the option of automatic duplexing which is sure to save you a lot of paper and double the number of images you can print without adding to the paper trays.
All of these qualities don’t cost a lot of money either, which really adds to the allure of this device. The majority of sellers will offer this device for about $180. As if that wasn’t worth it, you can get this device for a much lower price. For example, at Inkjet Wholesale, we offer this device for as low as $133. That’s savings worth nearly $50 on the market price.
Weaknesses of Canon MAXIFY MB2760
The initial cost of the Canon MAXIFY MB2760 is definitely a plus in its favour but it is balanced off by its running costs. The MB2760 is cheap to get but it is slightly too expensive to run. You can expect to pay anything around 13.14 cents per page and 11.41 cents per page for colour and monochrome documents respectively.
Considering how current Canon devices tend to be, their oversight in the connectivity side of things is a little surprising. We’re talking about the absence of Wi-Fi Direct and Near-Field Communication (NFC) options. This limitation isn’t that problematic because Canon has done everything to make mobile connectivity possible. You can connect to the Canon MAXIFY MB2760 through USB 2.0, Ethernet, or wirelessly. Choosing Ethernet or wireless connections comes with mobile connectivity through Google Cloud Print, Apple Air Print, Microsoft Mobile Print, and MAXIFY Cloud link. Third party apps and services are also supported such as Concur, One Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote, Photo Bucket, Picasa, Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, and Canon Image Gateway.
Key Features of Canon MAXIFY MB2760
The Canon MAXIFY MB2760 isn’t the most compact but it isn’t the biggest either. It falls smack in the middle of the accepted benchmark. It measures about 463mm wide, 389mm deep, and 320mm high. It doesn’t weigh a tonne either. Instead, it weighs about 12.1 Kg. This means that you can probably share your desk with it, without worrying about it being overloaded.
In terms of print speed, the Canon MAXIFY MB2760 is neither a dud nor a dude. For the price it is available, 24 ppm for monochrome documents and 15.5 ppm for colour documents is more than satisfactory. First print out times of this device are, however, quite good at 6 seconds for monochrome and 7 seconds for colour pages.
Like all multifunction and all-in-one devices, the Canon MAXIFY MB2760 also has a control panel from where you can access many of its functions. This control panel is dominated by a 7.5 cm touchscreen which is accompanied by some LED status lights and buttons. In terms of buttons, there are two (monochrome and colour) ‘Start’ buttons, two navigation buttons, and single buttons for ‘Home’, ‘Stop’, ‘Back’, and ‘Power’.
With respect to post-sales support, Canon has an exemplary record and this device comes with a 12-month Return to Base warranty.
