The Brother MFC-L2750DW was released by this Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) as a part of its 10-model assault on the Small Office / Home Office (SOHO) market segment. In fact, the MFC-L2750DW is the leader of that assault team since it boasts of the best features and qualities of the lot.
In fact, the Brother MFC-L2750DW is an All-in-One device that packs the feature-rich punch of a heavy-weight enterprise-class multifunction printer. It manages to do that while staying within the desktop dimensions and without compromising on print output quality.
You’ll find the Brother MFC-L2750DW to be a fairly interesting option especially if your needs are a little more advanced than the usual SOHO individual or business.
Strengths of Brother MFC-L2750DW
From the off, what stands out with the Brother MFC-L2750DW is its print speed. It is faster than most of its competitors in the same market segment.
Rated to print at a very good clip of 34 pages per minute (ppm), this device won’t make you wait for your documents. This kind of print speed is quite rare in SOHO devices, which is why it stands out.
Even if you want to print on both sides of the page, you’ll get good print speed.
You can expect to get a print speed of 8 sheets per minute which translates to 16 sides per minute. The MFC-L2750DW can give you this duplex print speed because it possesses a single-pass Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). The ADF will allow you to use automatic duplexing on up to 50 sheets at a time.
The Brother MFC-L2750DW is very modern. It comes with every type of connectivity option you can think of. There are the usual suspects in the form of USB 2.0, Ethernet, wireless connectivity options but there are also the newer options such as Wi-Fi Direct and Near-Field Communication (NFC). Using any option other than USB 2.0 to connect to this device will open up a whole new avenue of mobile compatibility.
You’ll get compatibility with Google Cloud Print, Apple Air Print, Mopria, and Brother’s Web Connect apps including iPrint&Scan. Cloud services such as Box, One Note, One Drive, Google Drive, and Dropbox are also enabled.
Weaknesses of Brother MFC-L2750DW
The Brother MFC-L2750DW’s cost does seem slightly on the higher side when compared to the entry-level devices that it is competing with.
However, this is only because of the kind of features it provides.
Not many of its competitors are offering such a feature-set in this market segment and those that are, tend to be priced similarly.
Therefore, the listed price of $299 doesn’t seem so over-the-odds.
More importantly, when you shop around and get rates nearer to $225, the acquisition cost for the MFC-L2750DW becomes even more palatable. In terms of running costs, the story is the same i.e. the Brother MFC-L2750DW is slightly on the expensive side. The per-page costs, though, vary on whether you use genuine cartridges or generic cartridges.
Using cartridges manufactured by the OEM will see you spend about 5.96 cents for every page you print. On the other hand, if you use compatible or generic cartridges, you’re per-page cost will drop to 5.42 cents.
Another perceived flaw of the Brother MFC-L2750DW that may give your trigger finger a pause is the paper capacity. This device doesn’t accommodate high-volume printer users. There isn’t even scope for scaling the paper capacity up. The device comes standard with a paper capacity of 251 sheets and that’s it. This capacity is divided between a 250-sheet paper tray and a single-sheet bypass tray or manual feeder. Brother recommends printing about 2,000 pages per month even though the device’s maximum monthly duty cycle is 15,000 pages.
Key Features of Brother MFC-L2750DW
The Brother MFC-L2750DW is fairly compact in nature, even though it is taller than what you would expect from a desktop device. It measures about 410mm wide, 399mm deep, and 318mm high. Even if the height is a little too much, you can still keep it on a desk because it doesn’t weigh a lot. Without consumables, the device only weighs approximately 11 Kg.
Print quality isn’t something that we’ve mentioned till now. This was mainly because the output quality of this device is average. Like all laser devices, it prints exceptional text, mediocre graphics, and poor photos. It is a monochrome laser printer after all. Even maximum resolution of 2400 x 600 dots per inch (dpi) cannot make a monochrome laser printer deliver exceptional photos.
Behind the housing, the Brother MFC-L2750DW operates on the shoulders of a 600 MHz processor and a 256MB RAM. The print engine of this device, thus, can deliver your first print to you within 8.5 seconds from the ‘Ready’ mode and within 17.5 seconds from the ‘Sleep’ mode.
You’ll be using the scanner of the Brother MFC-L2750DW quite a bit because it is accomplished. It can scan up to a maximum resolution of 19,200 x 19,200 dpi and is also fast. The scan speeds for single-sided scans will be to the tune of 22.5 images per minute (ipm) for monochrome documents and 7.5ipm for colour documents.
The speeds are slower if you scan in the duplex mode. You can expect this device to scan in duplex at speeds of 11.2ipm for monochrome and 3.7ipm for colour documents. However, reduction in scanning speeds, printing speeds, and copying speeds are natural when the duplex mode is employed so this shouldn’t bother you.
The control panel on the Brother MFC-L2750DW consists of a 68mm TFT colour LCD touchscreen, a number keypad, and some basic buttons. The touchscreen is very useful as its intuitive interface will give you access to a slew of functions such as using optical character recognition to convert documents and scanning documents straight to a network folder, an FTP folder, the PC or even email.
You’ll even be able to scan to any of the cloud services that we mentioned in the strengths section of this post. The OEM offers a Return to Base warranty that remains active for 12 months.
