imageClass Monochrome Printer Series Expanded by Canon with 11 New Models
It’s not often that you see an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) launch more than a few new printer models but this time we seemed to have struck gold not with just one OEM but two. The first of the two OEMs we’re talking about is Canon that has released no less than 11 new models to expand its well-known imageClass monochrome printer series.
To be fair, Canon has been on somewhat of a spree in the last year with respect to new printer models being launched. The number of new models being introduced here is notable considering the fact that last time Canon launched a single model (Canon Océ PlotWave 450 print system) and the time before that four new models (imagePROGRAF Pro Series).
Every new imageClass monochrome printer is based on high performing laser technology which will maximise productivity across varies segments of the OEM’s customer base. The new imageClass monochrome printer models can be divided into three categories. There are two new copiers being introduced to the series, four multifunction printers and five single function printers.
Apart from these categories, these new imageClass monochrome printer models can also be divided on the basis of their intended target audience. For example, imageClass LBP151DW, imageClass MF416DW multifunction printer, imageClass MF414DW multifunction printer, imageClass D1520 copier, and the imageClass D1550 copier are all designed explicitly to fit into home office and small work groups. Similarly, imageClass LBP251DW, imageClass LBP253DW, imageClass LBP351DN, imageClass LBP352DN, imageClass MF419DW, imageClass MF515DW, imageClass LBP253DW, imageClass LBP351DN, and imageClass LBP352DN are more suited to mid-size workgroups or even larger enterprises.
Amongst the imageClass monochrome printer models aimed at smaller workgroups and home offices, the imageClass LBP151DW is highlighted by its small operational footprint. This model is specifically designed to be suitable for homes and small offices where space constraint and restrictions are fairly common. Canon has also focused heavily on mobile connectivity in all its new imageClass monochrome printer models. The model we’ve already mentioned supports mobile printing through apps such as Google Cloud Print, Mopria Print Service, and the Canon PRINT Business Application.
However, there are other imageClass monochrome printer models such as the imageClass MF416DW multifunction printer, imageClass MF414DW multifunction printer, imageClass D1520 copier, and the imageClass D1550 copier that allow what Canon is calling the “tap and print” functionality. This is made possible through the Wi-Fi Direct feature. The copiers mentioned above will also be highly useful for offices and workgroups that require legal prints because they support legal size platen glass. All of the imageClass monochrome printer models also boast of a 3.5 inch LCD colour touch screen display screen with a highly intuitive interface.
Mid-size and large enterprise focused imageClass monochrome printer models are designed to deliver high print speeds. The LBP251DW and LBP253DW models are each capable of churning out prints at 35 pages per minute (ppm), while the LBP351DN and LBP352DN are both capable of up to 65 ppm. The latter two printer models also support configurations where up to four different sized media can be used. The LBP351DN and LBP352DN are also cost effective owing to the fact that they are based around Canon’s new high capacity toner cartridges that can print up to 25,000 pages each.
With regard to multifunction printers aimed at the mid-size and large enterprises, the options include imageClass monochrome printers such as MF419DW and MF515DW models. Of these two, MF515DW is the fastest multifunction printer that Canon has ever released owing to its print speed of up to 42 ppm. The imageClass monochrome printer models aimed at the mid-size and large enterprises also support the use of uniFLOW output management software programme from Canon.
8 New Indigo and PageWide Web Presses Introduced by HP Inc. To Expand Its Commercial Printing Fleet
Last time we reported on HP Inc., it was about the smashing new deal they’d signed with a Japanese firm and their collaboration with Smurfit Kappa. The last great product development focused news that came out of the HP Inc. camp was the evolution of PageWide, OfficeJet Pro, and LaserJet business printers. After updating these printers, HP Inc. has decided to expand its commercial printing fleet as well by introducing eight new printer models consisting of five Indigo and three PageWide web presses. The improvement in HP Inc.’s commercial printing fleet means that the capacities of Printing Service Providers (PSPs) all over the world will be boosted.
Supposedly, these new printers represent what is one of the most significant breakthroughs in HP Liquid Electrophotgraphy (LEP) technology in the last two decades. The improvements that these new printer models represent are quite significant in the industry. The OEM has managed to set a new, higher benchmark for quality with this improved technology. This means that print sharpness, smoothness, and overall print resolution has been improved on the back of new High Definition Laser Array (HDLA). In fact, the print resolution of these new printers is twice of what it was for previous printers.
The colour accuracy of these printers has also been improved through the use of various automated colour management tools. One of these is the inline spectrophotometer that improves colour consistency along with colour accuracy. The new printer models will be using the latest HP Indigo ElectroInks. This new type of ink combined with multiple new types of media that these printers can use will multiply possible applications as well. New media that these printers can handle include canvas, metalised, and synthetic media along with substrates measuring up to 550 microns.
Productivity is another area where these printers have shifted the goalposts for the industry. With the help of HP Indigo Optimiser, these printers’ throughout can be boosted by no less than 40 percent. Similarly, HP SmartStream Production Pro 6.0 can reduce 50 percent of the workload on operators which means more work can be done in lesser time.
The improvements in HP Inc.’s PageWide web presses have been as significant as the improvements in the Indigo series, if not more. These improvements have resulted in the HP PageWide Web Press T490 HD becoming one of the most advanced digital colour duplex presses in the industry. The improvements mean that this device can now print at an amazing 67 percent faster than its previous variants and deliver prints at 1,000 feet per minute (fpm) in performance mode or 500 fpm in quality mode.
Improvements in technology also reflect in other PageWide presses such as the HP PageWide Web Presses T470 HD and the T480 HD. There’s more than 25 percent improvement in the output quality and speed of these particular models. They can now deliver 500 fpm in quality mode. The same 25 percent improvement has been seen in the HP PageWide Web Press T240 HD. This 22 inch press not prints at 250 fpm in quality model while delivering 500 fpm in performance mode.
