HP PageWide, HP OfficeJet Pro, and HP LaserJet Printers “Reinvented” By HP Inc.
We all knew something like this would happen. We knew that HP Inc. would have to try something audacious or at least something unique to turn its fortunes around. Why else would a man like Dion Weisler agree to take the reins of a whole new company? He had to have seen some scope for future growth, right?
Well, HP Inc. seems to be making moves that are gradually revealing to all of us what Weisler saw and had planned. In our last post, we explained how the Additive Manufacturing or 3D Printing industry is growing and correlated that with HP Inc.’s announcement of shipping 3D printers by the end of year. Notably, HP Inc.’s 3D printers weren’t going to be generic or mediocre by any account. According to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), its 3D printers are going to be the fastest in their segments.
Now, another side of HP Inc.’s revival plan has become visible as the OEM has launched upgraded HP PageWide, HP OfficeJet Pro, and HP LaserJet.
Of these new introductions, HP PageWide is the most significant. The reason for this is that these printers are, in the OEM’s own words, “faster than any other MFP in its class” and have a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) that is “lowest in its class”. Along with all this, HP Inc. is also saying that the HP PageWide printers offer best energy efficiency and security and management features.
These are all significant claims and features that can actually result in business printing being reinvented, like the OEM is saying. The basis for the HP PageWide technology is that these printers sport a print head that is as wide as the page. This means that the print head doesn’t have to move for the page to be printed. In fact, it is only the sheet that moves in these printers.
The HP Pagewide series includes:
- HP PageWide Enterprise Color 556,
- HP PageWide Enterprise Color MFP 586,
- HP PageWide Pro 552dw,
- HP PageWide Pro MFP 577dw,
- HP PageWide Pro 452dw,
- HP PageWide Pro MFP 477dw,
- HP PageWide Pro 352dw, and
- HP PageWide Pro MFP 377dw.
As a matter of fact, the HP PageWide technology is the ace in the hole for HP Inc. the OEM first deployed this technology in industry level devices. This was followed by wide format printing. The same technology will be used in the upcoming 3D printers that HP will start shipping before the end of the year. In the future, the HP PageWide technology will be seen in A3 multifunction printers (MFPs) to be released by the OEM soon. It is obvious that HP Inc. is hoping that the HP PageWide technology will give it an edge over its competitors in an industry where the demand is dwindling fast.
The new series of HP PageWide business printers isn’t the only thing that HP Inc. is relying on to improve its fortunes in a challenging market. It has also introduced new HP OfficeJet Pro and HP LaserJet printers for business applications.

The HP OfficeJet Pro series from the company is designed for smaller businesses. These printers feature the company’s HP Print Forward Design, which means that they are incredibly compact without any compromise on their productivity or print speeds. Furthermore, these printers also boast of seamless mobile printing i.e. convenient mobile connectivity and compatibility to HP Instant Ink system i.e. automated and affordable ink replacement when required.
The HP OfficeJet Pro series includes:
- HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All In One Printer,
- HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All In One Printer,
- HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 All In One Printer,
- HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 All In One Printer,
- HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 All In One Printer,
- HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 All In One Printer, and
- HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All In One Printer.
The HP LaserJet series of printers is designed for businesses as well, albeit businesses with more printing needs than small scale enterprises. These printers are typically faster than the OfficeJet Pro series of printers as well as more efficient and secure.
The HP LaserJet series includes:
- HP LaserJet Pro M501 series and
- HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M377 Series.
Finally, in addition to all these launches, HP Inc. has also upgraded or “reinvented” Managed Print Services (MPS) by launching a new service called HP Secure MPS that focuses especially on enterprise security. HP Secure MPS can be seen as a platform that enterprises and experts can use to create security strategies and plans to deal with ever evolving external threats as well as keep up with compliance requirements of various types.
Mid Volume PSPs get HP Scitex 9000 Industrial Press
HP Inc.’s “reinvention” further continues into the sign and display sector. HP Inc. has announced the new HP Scitex 9000 Industrial Press. The HP Scitex 9000 can be seen as an entry level device for sign and display Print Service Providers (PSPs). The unique aspect of the HP Scitex 9000 is that it provides such PSPs industrial level production speeds at entry level prices.
As a result, this printer is ideal for mid volume PSPs. According to HP Inc., this particular printer model was launched because mid volume PSPs have had a need for a device that can provide faster production speeds than currently possible while keeping the TCO below what industrial high end presses have.
Along with HP Scitex 9000, HP Inc. has also launched HP HDR245 Scitex Inks. Together, these new launches will expand the HP Scitex High Dynamic Range (HDR) of machines.
The engine speed of HP Scitex 9000 can handle up to 90 beds per hour. However, since the media handling system of the device is manual, the effective productivity is only 60 beds per hour since loading and unloading media can take up to 40 seconds. The duty cycle of HP Scitex 9000 is no mean thing either since it can handle 500,000 square metres per annum. This makes HP Scitex 9000 suitable for a wide variety of applications which even include point of purchase signs and displays.
A key aspect of the HP Scitex 9000 that will make it highly attractive to mid volume PSPs is that it is upgradable and scalable. In other words, the PSPs will be able to scale up their production capacities as and when they get larger contracts or when their business grows.
