Canon Enters Ink Tank Category with Four New Pixma G Series Printers
Within the inkjet printing segment, there is going to be a lot of movement in the category of ink tank printers. Ink tank printers are basically inkjet printers with a capacity to hold a larger amount of ink than standard inkjet printers. This is made possible with the placement of large ink tanks that do not need replacing or refilling as regularly as ink cartridges do. Ink tank type of inkjet printers are expected to be a big hit in the market, especially in the commercial sector, because they facilitate greater efficiency and are significantly more cost effective than standard inkjet printers.
The printer market has already received these types of inkjet printers from other Original Equipment Manufacturers like Epson and HP. Now, it’s the turn of Canon to enter this market segment with its own ink tan category printers. Canon has done so by introducing four new printer models in its Pixma G series. The Pixma G Series printers will now include new models which are the Pixma G 1000, the Pixma G 2000, the Pixma G 2002, and the Pixma G 3000.
Of the four new Pixma G Series printer models, the G 3000 is the most advanced. The G 3000 is an all in one printer that is Google Cloud print ready and has wireless capability of 802.11 b/g/n. The G 2002 and the G 2000 both are also all in one printers with the latter being different because it comes with two additional black ink tanks. Each printer model comes with separate ink tanks for each colour including cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.
What makes these new Pixma G Series ink tank printers is that each tank has a massive page yield when compared to basic ink cartridges. For instance, the ink tanks in these printers are capable of printing up to 6000 monochrome prints and up to 7000 colour prints.
This means the cost per page of these printers is incredibly low. In terms of monochrome prints, these printers can print 100 pages for only 12 cents while colour prints cost only about 32 cents for 100 pages. What makes the cost of running these printers even cheaper is that replacement ink bottles which can be used to keep the printer running are priced at less than $8 per unit.
Some of you may be saying that ink tanks have been available for OEM printers for some time now from the aftermarket. However, the difference here is that the ink tanks are actually integrated into the body of each of the new Pixma G Series models. This is in direct contrast to the aftermarket ink tanks which need to be installed outside the printer bodies. Furthermore, spills and leaks would be common with aftermarket ink tanks but are almost non-existent here. Even though the ink tanks are integrated into the body of each new Pixma G Series model, ink visibility hasn’t been compromised.
The Pixma G Series printers from Canon use full photolithography inkjet nozzle engineering technology which allows them to incorporate high density print heads. These print heads can create microscopic ink droplets. The purpose of this technology is to improve the print quality. The Pixma G Series printers are capable of printing at 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution. This technology remains in the new Pixma G Series as well which ensures high print quality at lower print costs.
In fact, all the features of the Pixma G Series printers exist in the new ink tank Pixma G Series printer model as well. The addition of ink tanks into the mix, for example, hasn’t compromised the benefits of Canon’s Pixma Integrated Hybrid Ink system or the printers’ capability to churn out borderless A4 photographs.
Moreover, the setup time of these printers is much better than their competitors in the market. The standard setup time in the segment is about 20 minutes, but the new Pixma G Series ink tank printers can be set up in a matter of only six minutes.
Industry’s First Polyester Chemically Produced Toner Introduced by Static Control
Static Control, one of the largest component suppliers in the world for laser toner remanufacturing industry, has upped the ante by creating the industry’s first polyester Chemically Produced Toner (CPT). The new type of polyester CPT has been dubbed as PolySphere by the laser toner components manufacturer.
This is a significant development for the global laser toner remanufacturing industry primarily because polyester CPT provides multiple benefits over pulverised polyester toner that the laser toner remanufacturing industry has been using till now.
One of the greatest benefits of polyester CPT is that it has a lower melting point. This means that the fusers in printers don’t need to reach higher temperatures to melt the toner.
Since fusers are not required to reach higher temperatures, the printers end up saving power leading to better power efficiency.
Additionally, polyester CPT is also more efficient than pulverised toner because the particles are significantly smaller. Polyester CPT particles are rounded and measure only about five to six microns as against pulverised toner particles which measure around eight to nine microns.
This increased efficiency will translate into optimum transfer efficiency as well as page yields comparable to OEM toners. Page yields of polyester CPT are better than pulverised toner because particles in the former are rounded while in the latter they are jagged. Jagged toner particles tend to not transfer easily which causes a lot of wastage.
Along with this, polyester CPT’s compatibility with colour pigments is much better than the compatibility of styrene and acrylic based toners with colour pigments. What this does is that it makes the print quality more true to life and vibrant.
Static Control has also revealed that PolySphere particles undergo their proprietary surface treatments which improve their durability, flow, and charging capabilities. Furthermore, the company has only released PolySphere that can be used in cartridges for Dell 5130 and associated machines. However, they did reveal that they will be releasing Polysphere that can be used in other printer brands such as Fuji – Xerox and Lexmark.
