Epson Introduces New Business Inkjet Printers Called WorkForce Pro
The printer industry depends on innovation. It is the innovations that keep it from getting too stagnant. This means newer and newer products need to be launched by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to match the ever evolving needs and requirements of their customers.
For the most part, this is the reason why we continue to see new product launches from OEMs at regular intervals. In an earlier post, we explained how Epson has launched four new wide format SureColor Printer Models. Two of the new models launched then were ten colour devices while two were eight colour models.
Now, Epson has made four new additions to its WorkForce Pro business inkjet series of printers. The four new WorkForce Pro printer models are WF – 5111, WF – 5621, WF – 6091, and WF – R8591. These printers are explicitly designed for home businesses as well as Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The four new WorkForce Pro models are built on all the latest Epson technology including its Precision Core Printhead technology. According to the company, the decision to launch the new WorkForce Pro printers was made to cater to increasing demand from its customers for better cost savings, higher energy efficiency, and even more speed.
The OEM claims that the four new additions to the already popular WorkForce Pro series of printers will offer “incredible savings” through low operating costs and “high page yields”.
On a monthly basis, the print yields of each of the new WorkForce Pro models are impressive. For instance, the WorkForce Pro WF – 5111 and WF – 5621 are capable of churning out an amazing 45,000 pages on a monthly basis. The WF – 6091 on the other hand can print around 7,000 monochrome pages in a month or 10,000 colour prints in the same time period.
The highlight of the new additions to the WorkForce Pro printers, though, is the WF – R8591. This new printer model is based on Epson’s Replaceable Ink Pack System (RIPS) technology along with DURABrite Ultra Pro inks. The purpose of Epson’s RIPS technology is allow the new printer model to have access to a higher amount of ink than what is considered standard in the segment.
The high ink access of the WF – R8591 is combined with a super high yield capacity resulting in even higher efficiency levels and cost effectiveness. The WorkForce Pro WF – R8591 is capable of printing 75,000 pages without the cartridges needing replacement.
The new printer models also come equipped with automatic duplex printing. The duplex printing option will further reduce the total cost of operation of these printers helping businesses achieve greater cost effectiveness and functional efficiency.
The four new additions to the WorkForce Pro series of printers were launched in an event held by Epson in Singapore. The event wasn’t held exclusively for the launch of new Epson WorkForce Pro printer models. Instead, the primary purpose of the event was for the OEM to be able to showcase its products to potential buyers.
Resultantly, Epson showcased its complete portfolio of business inkjet printers to visitors at the event. At the same event, Epson also announced a new range of its ink tank printers. The new L – series of ink tank printers will include models like L310, L365, and L655. The L655 is being touted by the company as its top of the line ink tank printer which is capable of creating duplex prints on the go.
Marvell Releases New Security Chip for Tackling OEM Counterfeiting Problems
Counterfeiting is one of the oldest thorns in any OEM’s side. The reason why counterfeiting is such a big problem for OEMs is that it harms their interests in more than one way.
For instance, counterfeit consumables destroy an OEM’s reputation because they are low quality cartridges being sold under the OEM brand. Effectively, when they break down or perform poorly, users think that it is the OEM’s product that has done so and never buy that brand again.
This was the indirect and subtle damage caused by counterfeiting. The direct and more obvious damage, which counterfeiting causes OEMs is that it dips into their confirmed sales. Every counterfeit product that a consumer buys is one less original OEM product he buys.
This is the prime reason why OEMs are after counterfeiters with a vengeance. Earlier this year in October, we reported how Epson Australia has been going after counterfeiting by not only targeting counterfeiters but also sellers of counterfeit products. The weapon of choice of Epson for this battle was simple in nature as well – they hired Private Investigators (PIs) to do the job for them.
What this shows is that there is a lot of demand in the market for protective technologies that will counter counterfeiting tactics. Marvell in the US has come up with one such technology in the form of a new security chip to counter the problem of counterfeiting.
The development from Marvell is essentially an Integrated Circuit (IC) that will help OEMs not only put in place a more certain authentication procedure for their cartridges but also track usage that will prevent counterfeiting. The new security chip has been dubbed 88PA810 Trusted Authentication Integrated Chip.
Marvell has listed a number of state of the art technologies while describing the strength of its new security chip. First and foremost, the manufacturer states that the new security chips have highly advanced anti tampering alarms instead in conjunction with “extensive complex circuitry”.
This extensive circuitry is reinforced with internal regulators, internal clocks, and active metal mesh coverings. As per Marvell, all these features will prevent tampering by way of physical attacks.
Furthermore, the new security chip also protects intangible information that counterfeiters may try to access by encrypting all off chip data communications. For this aspect of security, the chips come with one time programmable memory feature worth 3KB, a countdown counter that cannot be reset, and a unique hardware ID.
