The Office Jester… every office needs one for when millennials strike back
If you read our last post on millennials at work, then you know precisely the kind of bone the Baby Boomers and the Generation Xers have to pick with the millennials. In fact, as more and more millennials start entering the workplace, the differences are kind of getting accentuated. It has gone as far as to give birth to a couple of internet trends.
The subjects of millennials at work and millennials strike back are trending somewhat… not to the same extent that cat and pug videos tend to trend but still. Since the last instalment of your favourite Office Jester was on how Baby Boomers can cope with millennials at work and mainly focused on the silliness of millennials, this time out we’ll change sides and help millennials strike back.
Here’s What Happens When Millennials Strike Back
First things first. The guy in this “millennials strike back” video looks old, doesn’t he? He doesn’t look like a millennial that’s for sure. He’s probably only a millennial by a whisker. He does look old, doesn’t he? However, let’s put that aside in the spirit of hilarious licence which your Office Jester treats as not all that different from poetic licence.
Moreover, some of the points he makes are quite valid. For instance, consider the fact that he blames the baby boomers for the recent financial crisis. He’s completely right about it.
The baby boomers did actually cause the current financial crisis through over borrowing but then they did it to cater to the demands of the millennials. Ahem…
Next significant point our millennial/generation Xer makes is the lack of technological knowledge of the baby boomers. This one’s fair too. We’ve actually had people order toner for their inkjet printers, if you’ll believe it.
Baby boomers do have a tendency to fuss a lot about seniority and hierarchy. It’s no surprise that they don’t really survive long in organisations such as Facebook and Google.
Unfortunately, this is the point at which the narrator loses the plot in this “millennials strike back” video. Millennials, and I am one, have this tendency to whine about things a lot. The narrator refers to this too. Perhaps, the reference was sarcastic and satirical but it failed to get the right reaction from us.
At the same time, they do have valid reasons to whine. Their student loans on their shoulders must actually feel like the photographer feels in this scene.
Add to that the pressure of not having a job or going through a series of non-paying internships and it’s not surprising that most millennials are like the girl in this little video. It’s no wonder they obsess over their gadgets and clothes so much. Gadgets and clothes are “grown up” toys anyways.
Since we gave you a video bonanza in this post, we’ll compensate by leaving you shaking your head at that little girl’s temper tantrum. Oh, the wonders of being a daddy…
