The Office Jester… every office needs one to ridicule the entrepreneurial dream
Everyone wants to live the entrepreneurial dream. Very few people, though, actually pause in their race to the mountain of bliss to consider if it is even realistic. The problem isn’t that the entrepreneurial dream isn’t realistic; the problem is that people’s vision of the said dream is unrealistic. Sure, the entrepreneurial dream entails having tonnes of money, people at your beck and call, and even free time but that is only when you reach that elusive mountain.
More importantly, it’s about the path to that mountain. The path to the dreamy mountain can be better described as the mountainous dream. In other words, it isn’t simple. If it were that simple, the one percent would become the 99 percent in a hurry. If it were that simple, you would have unicorns in the world as opposed to donkeys. If it were that simple, your boss wouldn’t be such a ‘you know what’.
We still dream of that simplicity because it is a pre-requisite to the entrepreneurial dream. However, to get at that dream, we need to ditch the dream of simplicity. Maybe seeing it visualised will take away that ache in your heart? Here’s a funny video that asks people dreaming of the entrepreneurial dream the question “if only it were that simple”.
The Entrepreneurial Dream Reconsidered
There are three instances in this video. Each of them, were any of them real, could really add a new gloss to the entrepreneurial dream.
Imagine, if your boss didn’t bat an eyelid at a request for more money.
Imagine, if your contact centres (customer, client, dealer, distributor, supplier, doesn’t really matter) didn’t have any connection problems and worked like clockwork.
Imagine, if your IT team didn’t throw their toys out of the pram every time they were asked to do something.
It would be a dream, right? A dream place to work at where everyone was riding a pink pony, all the hottest girls hit on you constantly, beer was supplied by the peon, boss played video games with his employees, and your wife brought you a nice and warm, homemade lunch.
Visualise it, because it’ll never be real – unless, of course, you hunker down and actually build that career, company, or reputation that you’ve been dreaming about in conjunction with the entrepreneurial dream.
Jokes apart, though. Do you know anyone who has achieved their entrepreneurial dream? I know one but I’ll only tell if you tell me one in the comments section. Have a go then!
