The Office Jester… every office needs one to have fun with reverse psychology at work
What is the one fantasy of all bosses? Do you know what kind of dreams entrepreneurs have? If you’re an employee it should be fairly obvious to you. Bosses dream of employees who enjoy their work. Their fantasy is of workers who love coming to work and have more fun at work than anywhere else. Hogwash! Or Hogwarts since we’re in imagining fantastic workers and where to find them!
There’s a serious discrepancy on how employees view themselves and how bosses view their employees. The intensity of this discrepancy is almost surprising. Bosses always seem to think that their employees should give more while employees always think that they’re doing justice to their work.
It is all about expectations. These expectations meet only when the employee sees the business as his own. In practice, this happens in the case of employee equity i.e. employees are given a share in the company. Other practices also work.
For example, we doubt any Google employee feels like he’s being taken advantage of. Or even Microsoft employee dithers from going to work. However, one way to keep employees happy is to create an environment where that happiness flows. In other words, reverse psychology at work will work. That must be what this video focuses on.
Reverse Psychology at Work
At the same time, our evil side thinks of a subtle purpose of this video. Perhaps, this video is about reverse psychology at work by the employee himself. Imagine if all the employees start acting like this. It is sure to trip up the most optimistic of bosses. If everyone in the workforce behaves this way, how can the boss not be compelled to reward the good behaviour?
Heck, you could probably end up giving your boss a nervous breakdown by just doing this for a week. The poor bloke won’t know what hit him and probably retire. Besides, Gandhi would be proud of you and your office mates’ evil convolution of his strategy and Mandela would have a face palm moment in heaven purely for you lot.
The video, though. What about it? This guy’s a lunatic. He deserves to be in an asylum. Even the bosses, business owners, and promoters probably don’t behave this way when it comes to the dreaded four-letter word “work” and the six-letter word “Monday”.
The only person who remotely behaved this way in the history of humanity was Donald Trump when he won the elections. We can see him gallivanting and bouncing around his diamond-studded suite telling his army of servants about how he pulled one over the American public while Melania Trump is sitting in a revealing dress in the corner trying to repossess her soul.
It’s a wonder this video. We bet the man who made it, Michael Kerr, sniggers every time he sees it himself. To be fair to him and all jokes apart, he does happen to be a Hall of Fame international business speaker. The premise on which his whole argument is based also has legs, of course. After all, humour can turn the world on its head, if allowed.
Charlie Chaplin once said, “to truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it”. So, go forth revolutionaries laugh at your respective bosses, ex-wives, former boyfriends and girlfriends, co-dependent parents, and of course Donald Trump if you’re an American.
